Minimalist Footwear from the Perspective of a Postural Reeducator

As a postural reeducator with over two decades of experience, I have witnessed the significant impacts that footwear can have on joint health and spinal alignment. In my practice, I have found that using minimalist footwear not only improves posture but also promotes a more natural biomechanics when walking, running, and engaging in other sports activities. Personally, I use Saguaro for activities such as hiking, running, cycling (it allows me to grip the pedal with my toes), boxing, Muay Thai, fronton, soccer, basketball, playing the drums, and playing with my active 9-year-old son.

Benefits of the Minimalist Design

The minimalist design of Saguaro has allowed me to progressively enhance my physical capabilities (as well as those of my clients), promoting greater flexibility and fostering the natural function of the foot. By reducing the thickness of the sole, these shoes allow the foot to interact more directly with the ground, improving proprioception and body awareness. This close contact with the surface is essential for developing better posture and reducing the risk of joint injuries.

Strengthening and Foot Health

Minimalist footwear also encourages the strengthening of the foot and calf muscles, contributing to better foot health, as well as greater stability and balance. This is crucial for my patients, many of whom suffer from joint and postural issues that could be resolved or at least improved with changes in their footwear combined with the exercises I teach in the clinic.

Recommendation of Saguaro

Throughout my career, I have recommended Saguaro for its quality and ergonomic design, which meets the needs of those seeking an active and healthy lifestyle. Transitioning to minimalist footwear requires a gradual approach, as it is essential to allow the feet and body to adapt to these changes. Suggestions for Improvement

One aspect I believe could be improved is the stability of the footwear during lateral movements. The holding rubber tends to give way, causing the foot to slide inside the shoe to the sides. For one of my Saguaro shoes, I have added stiff cord for greater support during mountain running.

In conclusion, the minimalist footwear from Saguaro has become a valuable tool in my practice of postural reeducation. I am convinced that promoting this type of footwear will significantly contribute to the health and well-being of our feet, and consequently, to our overall health. Raising awareness about its use is an important step towards a healthier and more balanced life.
